Medicare

Everyone’s situation is unique; you might be asking yourself some questions like these;

What is the difference between Medicare and Medicaid?

Medicare is a federal program that provides health coverage if you are 65+ or under 65 and have a disability, no matter your income.

Medicaid is a state and federal program that provides health coverage if you have a very low income.
What are the parts in Medicare? (On page 4 of your Medicare and You Book)

Medicare Part A is your hospital insurance (page 25-29)

Medicare Part B is your Medical Insurance (Doctors) (page 29-54)

Is it mandatory to enroll in Medicare Part B and is there a Part B penalty?

Medicare Part A and Part B are also called original Medicare

Medicare Part C is a Medicare-approved plan from a private company that offers a “bundle” plans which includes Medicare Part A (hospital) and Medicare Part B (Doctors) and also called original Medicare) and some Medicare Part C (Which is sometimes called Medicare Advantage Plans) may include your Part D which is your prescription drug plan (page 79-90) some plans may offer extra benefits like vision, hearing, and dental services.

Medicare Part A + Medicare Part B (Plans A & B original Medicare) + Part D (most plans) + extra benefits = Part C Medicare Advantage (Page 5 Medicare & You Book)

Do I have to sign up for Part D?

Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) are policies sold by private companies, can help pay for some remaining health care cost not covered by original Medicare, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.

Medicare Supplements plans must follow federal and state laws designed to protect you, and they must be clearly identified as “Medicare Supplement Insurance.” Can only sell you a “standardized” plan, identified in most states as using Letters like A-D, G and K-N, ALL plans offer the same basic benefits, but some offer additional benefits so you can choose which one meets your needs.
